We love Upworthy because what they share tends to be worth re-sharing. And this story in particular caught our attention. Talk about serendipity! A "farm" for stray animals (of all kinds) just happened to be in close proximity to a county jail in the Florida keys, and a win-win partnership was born.
The farm is completely funded by donations and provides a haven for both the abandoned animals and prison inmates in need of, well, someone who needs them. As one inmate said of his bond with an elderly, blind and often curmudgeonly horse: "Doing something good when I was in a pretty bad situation myself, it really gave me peace."
Let us know your thoughts about this project—we hope it makes your Saturday!

Thanks you guys! It's chilly here too—snowing in fact!
I love programs that pair humans in need with animals in need. I really hope to see more programs like this as I think there is a huge potential for healing on both sides.
I recently read about a new graduate counseling program at the University of Denver that specifically trains social workers and counselors to include animal therapy in their practice. As far as I know, it is the first graduate program of its kind. Very cool
Thanks for that info, The Daily Pip—we love those types of programs too. We can't imagine a stronger win-win situation. And that program at the University of Denver sounds wonderful—we'll check it out!
