Are Cat People Crazier Than Dog People?

We'll let you decide after you read these historical musings from The New York Times. We love this first editorial written in 1872, that humorously makes the connection between cat fancying and "lunacy", as in "Lunatics often have an excessive fondness for cats", while referring to dogs as "...a respectable and upright animal." My feline sister notwithstanding, I agree that we dogs are respectable, upright, and even forthright animals. What say you?

This photo from a 1904 article profiling the pet dogs of society women of the day. Notice the parallel to today's celebrities posing with their dogs?

And let's not forget this 1929 bit discussing the goggle craze for dogs in London. It seems that motorists in that notoriously foggy city didn't want grit getting in their dogs' eyes, so their was a rush on doggie eye goggles. And we think the pooch pampering craze is something new!

This web section of the Times called The Learning Network is designed for school kids and their teachers, but we love it!
