Did someone say food?
You know, you don't always have to purchase prepared dog food and treats when you can raid the fridge for some "dog approved" people food. It can be less expensive because you’ve already bought it in for the family, and we're guessing that your pooch will thank you for it! Here are some foods that are probably in your fridge right now that your dog just might love:
Cheese
Most dogs go crazy for cheese and will do practically anything to get their paws on it, so it makes a great treat to use during training. Chop a chunk into small pieces and keep in a food bag in the fridge to take on walks or to puppy training classes.
Peanut Butter
Peanut butter is a classic family favorite, but dogs love it too. A small amount provides a tasty treat, along with a dose of healthy fats, protein, vitamin B and vitamin E. It’s best for you, your family and your dog to eat unsalted, natural peanut butter, so stock up and let the whole family enjoy it.
Oatmeal
If your dog is a little older, suffers from bowel problems or is allergic to wheat, cooked oatmeal is great for adding fiber to their diet. Don’t add any sugar or extras to make it tastier; your dog will love it plain. You could even double up the goodness and add small chunks of apple to the oatmeal for an extra source of vitamin A and C.
Eggs
Treating your dog to a breakfast of scrambled eggs is a great way to give them a protein boost. Don’t be tempted to add salt, pepper or butter, because your dog doesn't need these extras to improve the taste, and they may upset his or her digestive system. Remember, anything that’s a change from their regular food will make your pooch excited enough!
Salmon and Chicken
If you’re going to give your dog a meaty treat, make it salmon or cooked chicken. Salmon is an excellent source of omega 3 fatty acids, which help support your dog’s immune system. Cooked chicken will add a protein boost, and both make great meal substitutes for when you’re out of regular dog food.
Different dogs might react differently to these foods, and if your pooch has a sensitive stomach, then you'll want to experiment with small amounts to find out what’s O.K. for him to eat, and provide their regular food for the bulk of their meals. The idea is that dogs enjoy variety in their diet as much as humans do, so occasionally raiding your fridge to feed your pooch can be smart for the whole family.
Please note that this is a compensated post.
