What's this we hear about a 24 hour TV channel just for dogs? Yep, we hear right - it's aptly dubbed "DogTV", and the channel's executives claim that "their programming is scientifically designed to appeal to dogs." According to a DogTV spokeswoman, they have "three years of research on how dogs react to stimuli," and have incorporated this research into their programming: "three to six minute segments featuring grassy fields, bouncing balls and humans rubbing dog tummies."
Of course there is debate among the experts whether your pooch would actually "learn" anything from watching this dog channel, or any TV at all, for that matter. Hey, what have you humans learned lately from "American Idol"? I thought so...
But there is some evidence that watching these soothing images when you're away can help ease our separation anxiety, which many of us canines suffer from, including yours truly. But as with parents of little humans as well as dogs, don't just dump your dog (or your kid) in front of a video and expect that to substitute for the "quality time", that all good dogs deserve, like going for daily walks and playing fetch, for example...You can't make this stuff up!
As you ponder this new TV channel that plans to be on cable systems nationwide by the end of the year, we'll leave you with proof that Parental Unit and I regularly share "quality time" together.
Here's a photo of Andrea Arden, star of numerous Animal Planet shows, me, and Parental Unit at the first ever BlogPaws conference in Columbus, Ohio-more on their upcoming (fourth) conference coming soon!
