Photo of Sara in her prime taken by Jack Revkin, courtesy of The New York Times.
Andrew C. Revkin writes a fascinating blog called "Dot Earth" for the Opinion Section of The New York Times, "that examines efforts to balance human affairs with the planet's limits". It was there, and on his Facebook page that he posted just today about the loss of his family dog, Sara, a mixed breed gal that he and his family adopted from a shelter in 2001.
This ode to Sara briefly but eloquently explains how sharing your life with a dog makes you better at being a human. And as Revkin says, "Each one [of the two family dogs that he's loved and lost] helped make me a better human."
We can only try to give as much to our dogs as they do to us, and it doesn't seem possible that any of us succeed.

Indeed! We strive each day to be the kind of humans our dogs think we are!
Agree...it's a fact

How wild. I read another blog earlier today that said the Times was all about dogs now to the detriment of local news. Hmmmm....
As for the sentiment of the piece, I wholeheartedly agree.
