We're thrilled to be part of Iams Home 4 the Holidays 13th annual adoption drive, that runs from October 1, 2011 through January 3, 2012, and to have the opportunity to encourage our readers to take part in helping orphaned pets find loving homes-just in time for the holidays!
But first, let's get caught up on the amazing achievements of this annual pet adoption campaign: In 1999, Mike Arms, Director of the Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego, California, launched this now world wide adoption drive with only 14 participating animal organizations-that year, 2,563 animals were adopted into loving homes. Thirteen years later, with more than 5.8 million pets already adopted through this campaign, 3500-plus adoption organizations from 21 countries have come together for this year's Iams Home 4 the Holidays adoption drive, with the goal of finding homes for at least 1.5 million orphaned pets.
By the way, new to the campaign this year are campaign ambassadors, NASCAR driver Ryan Newman and his wife, Krissie, who founded the Ryan Newman Foundation to educate and encourage people to spay and neuter their pets and to adopt animals from shelters and rescue centers. How wonderful that people from all walks of life come together to help animals-we love it!
Here are just a few ways you can help out this year-feel free to think of more of your own:
__ Spread the word about this adoption drive on your blog, Facebook Page and Twitter account-feel free to copy and paste this post for your blog or social media shout-outs.
__ Adopt an orphaned pet near you from one of the 3500-plus participating organizations-go for it! **Everyone who adopts through this program will receive an Iams adoption kit brimming with helpful information to prepare them for their new family member, along with coupons for pet food and pet products, galore!**
__ New this year is Iams' Bags 4 Bowls Program: Just visit Iams Facebook Page and "Like" the page, photos, videos and posts (see my smiling face there!) For every "Like" they receive, Iams will donate a meal to a homeless animal. Their goal this year is to donate five million meals to animals in need!
__ You can also create a custom adoption announcement or holiday card to share your new four-legged family member with friends and family-for each card created and shared, Iams will donate a meal. More details on these custom cards coming soon to Bocci's Beefs!
__ And wait, there's more! If you purchase any specially-marked packages of Iams dog or cat food for the duration of this adoption campaign ( October 1, 2011-January 3, 2012), Iams will donate one bowl of food for each package sold to a participating Iams Home 4 the Holidays organization.
Please feel free to contact me with any ideas on how we all can help make this 13th year of the Iams Home 4 the Holidays campaign a raging success-and we'd love to hear how you participate!
