Last week, the "Retirement Section" of The New York Times had an article that extolled the virtues of pet sitting as a second career, of sorts. According to the article, "Pet-sitting has flourished as the number of household pets, and the amount of money that Americans spend on them, continue to grow." Apparently, pet-sitting can be turned in a fairly lucrative business if you so desire: one woman interviewed for the article started out in a town near Albuquerque, New Mexico in 2006 with about 20 clients after the first six months, and now has over 600 clients and 70 full and part-time employees!

Parental Unit takes care of our neighbor's dog now and then, but she says she's got her hands full with Bella and me. What about you? Do any of our readers have pet-sitting businesses or plan to supplement your income by caring for others' pets?
Bella and I are pets, and here we are "sitting". Does this qualify as "pet-sitting", we wonder?
Although this is definitely more than a "postscript", we wanted to say that our hearts and thoughts (and crossed paws) go out to our brothers and sisters of Japan as they start their recovery from this devastating earthquake and Tsunami.

Now THAT's the kind of petsitting we could get into. :)
We, too, are purring and praying for the people and animals of Japan.
Yes, you guys are great pet sitters! My friend's daughter works as a vet tech, and does pet sitting on the side. I think that's a good combination.
Yes, that is a great combo, Peggy!
That's a brilliant idea!
People and animals in Japan are in our thoughts and prayers too!
Cool idea!
Hi,
I have thought about pet sitting as a business. However not sure how I would deal with the dogs who are agressive. How do you tell a possible client. Sorry but I don't sit for pit bulls.
