We were thrilled to receive a comment from Colleen Gedrich, the Program Manager for the International Society of Animal Rights (ISAR). ISAR is the organization that conceived the idea for International Homeless Animals Day in 1992, to shed light on animal overpopulation. Ms. Gedrich applauded our efforts to come together for this day, and encouraged us to check out ISAR's website for additional ideas at:

Our suggestion is to follow our comrade Tank's lead, and each of us do one small (or big!) task and/or make a donation of some kind to an animal shelter or rescue group near us this Saturday - a give-a-way, only we're doing the giving and each of us is winning by...doing the giving! Sounds like a "win-win" situation, doesn't it?
Parental Unit and I will make a donation to the Franklin County Shelter, (where she was lucky enough to find me:-). We already know they are in continual need of newspapers and blankets/sheets, so we will drop those off on Saturday.
We will also make an additional donation in Tank's name as promised-since he was the first to comment, and we're going with his idea, although you all agreed and offered many excellent thoughts-thank you!
And... speaking of the "Paw It Forward Contest" that we ran a few posts ago, the winner is:
Fiona, As Typed by Dr. Liz, who eagerly accepted the challenge to continue the giving-thank you! A donation will be made in your name to the Franklin County Shelter as well.
P.S. I'll be contacting Fiona (and the mutant puppy) for their snail mail address-Tank, I think I still have yours.

My asst. received an e-mail from Animal Haven, one of our shelters... they have LOTS and LOTS of kitties right now & they're in desperate need of canned cat food. She's going out today to buy some and will drop it off at the shelter this week.
I pleaded with her to do something for the dogs instead, but she said cat food is what they need the most. I intend to sulk for the rest of the day... or at least for the next few minutes.

Great idea! We are going to be car racing (well, Mom and Dad are - Abby and I will be sitting in the air conditioned House With Wheels while Mom and Dad swelter on the tarmac they will be racing on), so we'll make our donation early. It will be to No More Homeless Pets of Utah. And we are very excited about the Paw It Forward, although we have one request: rather than making the donation in my (our) name, could make it in the name of TaiChi, my dearly departed older sister? Tank's idea (we dont know him yet but will pop over later if we can finds him - she thick hooman) about giving a donation to a charity nearby is a great idea. We have the RSPCA near us in Derby and we will pop in with donation - mum will have to keep it away from me - I have a tendancy to EAT money in envelopes te hee he.

That is grrt Bocci, the way you are trying to advertise about this day for our homeless,blogless friends. They cannot do it themselves, so obviously someone else has to do it for them. We will try and do something. we have so many strays living on our streets.There aren't enough shelters to take them all in.
